Jailed Lok Sabha MP Amritpal Singh’s brother, Harpreet Singh, has been arrested by Jalandhar Police in a drug case.

Harpreet Singh was taken into custody along with two others, Sandeep Arora and Lovepreet, on Thursday evening, an official said.

The police also confiscated 4 grams of ice (a synthetic drug) from the trio, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ankur Gupta of Jalandhar Dehat Police stated. “Three individuals identified as Lovepreet, Harpreet, and Sandeep Arora have been arrested. They were detained last night. 4 grams of ice (a synthetic drug) have been recovered,” Gupta said.

Amritpal Singh, who is the Lok Sabha MP from Khadoor Sahib, is originally from Jallu Kheda village in Amritsar and is currently imprisoned in Dibrugarh Jail, Assam. He lived in Dubai before returning to Punjab in 2022, following the death of Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu. Upon his return, he became the leader of Deep Sidhu’s pro-Khalistani organization, Waris Punjab De.

He was arrested in Moga’s Rode village after he and his supporters staged a protest at the Ajnala police station on February 23, 2023. The protest turned into a clash with police personnel as they attempted to free one of his aides who had been detained for making inflammatory and pro-Khalistan statements. The Punjab Police charged Amritpal Singh under the National Security Act (NSA), leading to his confinement in Dibrugarh Jail.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Amritpal Singh won the Khadoor Sahib seat. He was recently granted a four-day custody parole and brought to Delhi to take the oath as a Lok Sabha member.
