The Jammu & Kashmir police on Tuesday has announced in a statement that they apprehended an individual from Rajouri district on charges of aiding a Rohingya woman in acquiring official documents.
Currently, the woman is residing in Narwal Bala, Jammu.
The arrested individual, Lal Din, a resident of Kampla Mohra, Rajouri, was taken into custody in the Laam area of Nowshera, as outlined in the official statement.
The police revealed that a criminal case was registered under FIR No. 215/2023 at PS Nowshera, citing violations of IPC Sections 420, 467, and 14 of the Foreigners Act.
The police stated in their release, “In the course of the investigation, an accused named Haleema, hailing from Myanmar, was previously arrested by the police on October 19. Subsequently, she was released by the court of law on October 30.”
The release stated, “Carrying forward the investigation into the instant FIR, the house of one Lal Din was searched and some important documents having evidentiary value have been seized in the instant case.”
Meanwhile, Jammu Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shakti Pathak conveyed that the police are conducting searches at various locations within the city, targeting individuals providing documents and plots to outsiders, specifically referring to Rohingyas, who are non-citizens of the country.
The senior police official also confirmed an ongoing investigation.
Addressing reporters in Jammu, DIG Pathak explained, “In different areas of Jammu city, individuals have allocated their plots to those arriving from outside. We are examining who is facilitating them with these resources and assisting them in availing Indian government facilities…”
Also, he informed that 7 police stations are actively involved, conducting searches at approximately 29-30 locations in Jammu.
He concluded, “We are scrutinizing the documents and identifying those responsible for aiding in their procurement. The investigation is in progress.”
Earlier in the day, Jammu & Kashmir police carried out searches at a Rohingya colony situated in the Bathindi area of Jammu.
