Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay has resigned as a judge of the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday, according to sources.
Justice Gangopadhyay submitted his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, with copies forwarded to CJI DY Chandrachud and the Chief Justice of the Calcutta HC TS Sivagnanam, the sources added.
He arrived at his chamber at the high court in the morning, following which the resignation letter was dispatched.
Later in the afternoon, he is scheduled to address the press, where it is anticipated that he will disclose his future plans, amidst speculations suggesting a potential move towards joining politics.
Justice Gangopadhyay had previously announced on Sunday that he would resign on March 5, 2024.
