Justice Nilay Vipinchandra Anjaria was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court on 25th February, 2024.
Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office to him during a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan’s ‘Glass House’. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil were among the dignitaries present at the event.
Previously serving as a Judge of the Gujarat High Court, Justice Anjaria’s nomination was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium earlier this month. He assumed the role of Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court following the retirement of Justice P S Dinesh Kumar, who reached the age of 62 years on February 24, 2024.
Justice Anjaria has been a judge at the Gujarat High Court since November 2011 and has been actively serving there. Prior to his appointment as a judge, he had a practice in the Gujarat High Court, handling cases related to civil, constitutional, company law, labour, and service matters, as noted by the collegium while recommending his name.
