Justices Ujjal Bhuyan And SV Bhatti Sworn In As SC Judges

Justices SV Bhatti and Ujjal Bhuyan has been sworn in as the Supreme Court judges on Friday taking working strength of the top court to 32.

The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud at a ceremony held in the Supreme Court. The event was attended by other judges and members of the bar.

On July 5, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended their elevation to the top court, which was subsequently notified by the Central government on July 12.

Justice Bhuyan served as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, while Justice Bhatti held the position of Chief Justice at the Kerala High Court.

Justice Bhuyan’s parent High Court is the Gauhati High Court, where he was initially appointed as a judge on October 17, 2011.

He has been the senior-most judge at his parent High Court and assumed the role of Chief Justice at the Telangana High Court since June 28, 2022.

Justice Bhatti, on the other hand, was appointed as a judge of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh on April 12, 2013, and holds the most senior position in his parent High Court.

He was later transferred to the Kerala High Court in March 2019 and has been serving as Chief Justice there since June 1, 2023.
