Kanjhawla Hit & Drag Case: Rohini Court Reserves order on Framing Charges

Delhi’s Rohini district court has reserved its decision on framing of charges in the Kanjhawala case. A 20-year-old girl named Anjali got trapped under a car and was dragged for 13 kms. This incident took place on the midnight of last Diwali. The court will pronounce its order on framing of charges on July 27.

As soon as Additional Sessions Judge Neeraj Gaur of Rohini Court began the hearing on framing of charges, the prosecution said that the four accused had agreed to drag Anjali. The Delhi Police has charged the four accused under sections 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

Furthermore, the police filed a chargesheet against 3 other individuals, namely Ashutosh Bhardwaj, Ankush, and Deepak Khanna, under sections 201 (causing disappearance of evidence or giving false information to screen offender), 212 (harboring offender), and 182 (false information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person) of the IPC.

Following the completion of arguments on framing charges, the court scheduled the pronouncement of its order on July 27.

Special Public Prosecutor Atul Shrivastava said the four accused had “agreed to do such an act to drag the victim, who was stuck beneath the car, and dragged the vehicle for 13 km, which caused the victim’s death”.

Further, he added, “For such an act, they are liable to be tried under IPC sections 302 and 120B.” Shrivastava highlighted that the “horrific incident” had been thoroughly investigated from multiple angles.

He stated, “Because there is no evidence or witness that shows that there was any knowledge with the accused persons with regard to the fact that the deceased was under the vehicle except the disclosure statement of the accused persons, there is no CCTV footage that shows that the accused looked under the vehicle, the screenshot which the prosecution has placed on record does not have the details.”

Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mithun, and Manoj Mittal were arrested by the police on January 2 in connection with the case.

Subsequently, Ashutosh Bhardwaj and Ankush were granted bail by a metropolitan magistrate’s court, while Deepak Khanna received relief from the present court on May 13.
On April 1, the Delhi Police filed an 800-page chargesheet against the 7 accused, following which the case was transferred to a sessions court for further proceedings.
