Former Union Minister and Cabinet colleague of Manmohan Singh, Kapil Sibal, praised Singh as a “quintessential Prime Minister” who steered India through a decade of coalition politics and played a pivotal role in elevating the country’s global standing.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Sibal emphasized Singh’s leadership, highlighting his critical role in the Indo-US Civil Nuclear Deal and India’s economic growth.
Sibal wrote: “Few human beings have humility as an endearing trait after reaching the pinnacle of power. The India story of economic growth began with the economic reforms he ushered in 1991. Not ‘accidental’ but the ‘quintessential’ Prime Minister.”
In a second post, Sibal acknowledged Singh’s leadership during a challenging coalition era, stating that he “guided the turbulent, coalition ship for 10 years” and was “singly responsible for the Indo-US Nuclear Deal” that brought India to the global high table.
Sibal also praised Singh’s reputation as a “consensus builder” and a committed parliamentarian, noting his openness with the press.
