Kerala’s Kozhikode court has recently convicted and sentenced a migrant worker from West Bengal to 10 years in jail for sexually assaulting 2 minor girls last year.
Public prosecutor Manoj Aroor stated, Nadapuram Fast Track Special Court judge Suhaib M sentenced convict Ahsan Chowdhary (26) to 5 years for the offence of sexual assault under the POCSO Act in 2 separate cases.
The PP stated that, he was also sentenced to 2 years for the offence of outraging the modesty of a woman under the IPC in each of the 2 cases.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on the convict in each of the 2 cases.
Aroor stated that the convict will serve a total of 10 years in jail.
In November last year, the prosecutor stated that the convict, while staying in Maruthonkara Grama Panchayat had with sexual intent recorded videos of 2 minor girls aged 6 years and 11 years who used to play near where he lived.
The prosecutor stated, the convict also sexually assaulted the minor girls, leading to lodging of 2 separate cases against him.
During the trial of the 2 cases, 26 witnesses were examined and 30 documents were perused by the special court.
