The Kerala High Court and District Courts have recently adopted Anuvadini, an Artificial Intelligence translation tool developed by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) of the Ministry of Education, to translate court judgments into the vernacular language of the state, Malayalam.

According to a press release issued by the High Court, using this tool, over 317 High Court judgments and over 5,136 District Court judgments have been translated from English to Malayalam and published on the respective court websites.

This initiative was led and guided by Justice A Muhamed Mustaque, Chairman of the Computerisation Committee, along with Justices Raja Vijayaraghavan V and Kauser Edappagath, who are members of the Artificial Intelligence Assisted Legal Translation Advisory Committee.

The press release stated that, “In the first phase, the Kerala High Court proposed to translate and make available all judgments certified for reporting in Malayalam.”

The press release further stated that there is a proposal to share translated versions of judgments with the Legal Service Authority for imparting legal education and awareness to various government departments and other stakeholders including litigants.

Further, the press release mentioned the intention to share translated judgments with the Legal Service Authority for legal education and awareness among various government departments, stakeholders, and litigants.
