Khalistani Sympathiser Amritpal Singh Granted 4-Days Parole

In a notable turn of events, Amritpal Singh, a controversial pro-Khalistan leader and newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) from Khadoor Sahib, is set to take his oath on July 5.

Despite his detention under the National Security Act (NSA) at Dibrugarh jail in Assam, Singh has been granted a four-day parole starting July 5 under specific conditions.

Independent MP Sarbhjeet Singh Khalsa from Faridkot, Punjab, confirmed this development, revealing that Amritpal Singh’s oath-taking ceremony will be conducted in the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s chamber. This confirmation comes after a series of approvals from state and central agencies, enabling Singh’s temporary release for the oath-taking.

Amritpal Singh’s legal advisor, Imaan Singh Khara, stated that the parole plea was filed on June 9 through the Punjab government under Section 15 of the NSA, which permits temporary release under certain conditions. The Punjab government forwarded the request to the Lok Sabha Speaker, who then arranged for the necessary approvals.

According to the sources, the Punjab government suggest that Singh will likely be airlifted from Dibrugarh to Delhi for the ceremony, highlighting the coordinated efforts to ensure his participation despite legal constraints.

Amritpal Singh, the chief of Waris Punjab De, won the Khadoor Sahib seat in the recent Lok Sabha Elections 2024 by defeating Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira with a margin of 1.97 lakh votes.

This development follows similar permissions granted to other detained MPs across the country, including Kashmiri leader Sheikh Abdul Rashid, showcasing the legal and procedural measures taken to facilitate parliamentary duties for incarcerated individuals.
