Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, expressed the ministry’s willingness to examine Advocate Protection Act to safeguard the interests of advocates. Speaking at a felicitation ceremony organized by the Bar Council of India (BCI), he called on the legal fraternity to recognize the often-overlooked “unsung heroes” among them, who selflessly contribute to the welfare of the public without seeking any rewards.
Meghwal asked the gathering to identify and honor a hundred such lawyers who may not have made it into the annals of history but have made significant contributions to society. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging these individuals and their families for their noble efforts.
Taking up the responsibility entrusted to him as Minister of State for Law, Meghwal assured the audience that he would attentively listen to their grievances and work towards resolving them.
In addition to his role in the Law Ministry, Meghwal also serves as Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture. He urged the members of the Bar to organize a workshop in honor of Dr. BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, on the occasion of the centenary since Ambedkar’s call to the Bar in 1923. Meghwal offered the Ministry of Culture’s cooperation if the BCI takes the initiative to conduct such an event.
At the ceremony, BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra brought up several issues concerning infrastructure and the welfare of lawyers. In response, Meghwal pledged that the Law Ministry would address concerns, including the shortage of chambers, particularly in district courts.
Representatives from bar associations from 20 states were present at the significant event. The minister’s encouraging words and commitment to addressing the challenges faced by advocates left a positive impact on the legal community.
