Law Minister To Rajya Sabha: Fast-Track Courts Settle 1.69 Lakh Cases

Over 750 fast-track special courts in the country have recently disposed of 1.69 lakh cases while over 1.95 lakhs remain pending as per informed by the law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal to Rajya Sabha.

Furthermore, in a written reply Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal stated that POCSO courts have disposed of a total of 1.08 lakh cases and about 1.30 cases are pending.

As per information by the high courts, 758 fast-track special courts, including 412 exclusive POCSO courts, are functional in 29 states and Union Territories which have disposed of more than 1,69,000 cases while 1,95,797 cases are pending in these courts.

The minister stated that “Among these, exclusive POCSO courts have disposed of more than 1,08,000 cases while more than 1,30,000 cases remain pending.”

The establishment of such courts are based on the needs & resources of each state, in consultation with their respective high courts, with the primary aim of providing speedy justice.
