The Gandhinagar sessions court on Tuesday awarded lifetime imprisonment for self god-man Asaram Bapu. He has been convicted in a rape case with a minor disciple.
The court reserved the verdict on Monday. During the hearing of the case, the prosecution in its arguments demanded life imprisonment to the accused Asaram Bapu and also said that the accused is a habitual criminal and also demanded a heavy fine for him. Asaram Bapu is currently lodged in Jodhpur Jail, where he is serving a life sentence for raping a minor girl.
Earlier, in the 2013, the sessions court of Gandhinagar convicted Asaram Bapu in the case of raping a woman. Asaram Bapu was accused of raping a female disciple several times during her stay in the Ahmedabad based ashram between 2001 and 2006. The prosecution had said that the crime committed by Asaram is punishable by life imprisonment or 10 years, but we have demanded that Asaram is serving a jail sentence in another similar case and is a habitual criminal. In such a situation, the prosecutor demanded strict punishment for Asaram and the imposition of a heavy fine, along with an appeal has been made to give compensation to the victim.
