A BJP leader in Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh was booked for allegedly taking his minor son to a polling booth in Berasia on May 7, where the child purportedly pressed the EVM button while being recorded, as per an official statement.
Responding promptly, Bhopal collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh suspended booth number 71 (Khitwas) polling officer Sandeep Saini and lodged an FIR against BJP zilla panchayat member Vijay Mehar, confirmed the official.
Collector Singh announced through a message on X that an investigation had been initiated following the circulation of Mehar’s viral video.
In a notable development, Singh’s initial communication addressed action against the presiding officer involved, while a subsequent update informed about the latter’s immediate suspension.
Expressing strong condemnation, Piyush Babele, media advisor to former MP Congress president Kamal Nath, shared the video on X, denouncing it as a mockery of the electoral process. According to Babele, Mehar himself filmed the polling procedure and shared it on his Facebook profile.
The Lok Sabha polls in Bhopal were conducted on May 7, featuring a prominent contest between BJP’s Alok Sharma and Congress’ Arun Shrivastava.
