Madras HC Advocates Association Elections To Be Held In June

MHAA

The Madras High Court has recently held that the elections for the Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) office bearers will be held in June, when the Court reopens after summer vacation.

A division bench of Justice R Mahadevan and Justice Mohammed Shaffiq asked the Association members to submit suggestions for the location of such elections, as well as new members to be appointed to the Teller Committee, by April 28.

The bench stated that the election date will be decided on June 3, 2023.

Following allegations of booth capturing, the Teller Committee stalled and eventually called off the MHAA elections scheduled following the high court’s order of October 2021 on January 9.

The division bench then ordered the MHAA Teller Committee to submit a report detailing what occurred on election day. It had assured the Association that the elections would be held again, this time with adequate security to ensure free and fair elections.
