Mahadev App Case: Mumbai Court Grants Pre-Arrest Bail To Suspended Chhattisgarh Cop

The sessions court in Mumbai has recently granted anticipatory bail to a Chhattisgarh policeman in a Mahadev online betting app-related case being probed by Mumbai Police.

The bail application was approved by Additional Sessions Judge V.M. Pathade on October 16.

Verma, who is currently incarcerated in a Chhattisgarh jail related to the same case, filed the pre-arrest bail application through his advocates, Faiz Merchant and Faisal Shaikh.

The defense argued that Verma should not face prosecution twice for the same offense, highlighting that the matter is already under investigation by both the Chhattisgarh police and the Enforcement Directorate.

The bail application claimed that the FIR against Verma was based on “false and concocted information” from the complainant, who describes himself as a social activist.

Furthermore, the application alleged that the complainant intended to extort money from Verma and had threatened to falsely implicate him.

The Mumbai Police’s FIR names 32 individuals, including the app’s “promoter,” in a fraud case involving nearly ₹15,000 crore.
