Devendra Fadnavis
On the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hoisted the national flag on Friday and participated in the Bombay High Court’s flag-hoisting ceremony alongside Chief Justice Alok Aradhe.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Fadnavis expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his continuous efforts to reduce the tax burden on citizens.
“Gift from Hon PM Narendra Modi Ji for this Diwali! Heartfelt thank you to Hon PM Narendra Modi Ji for constantly working to relieve the tax burden of the common man,” Fadnavis posted.
He added that the upcoming GST reforms would lower taxes on essential goods and services, benefiting individuals, MSMEs, and local vendors while creating a positive business environment.
Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on Independence Day, Prime Minister Modi announced that the government will roll out next-generation Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms around Diwali.
“This Diwali, I am going to give you a ‘double Diwali’ gift… We have formed a high-powered committee to review GST after eight years, in consultation with states. We are now bringing in next-generation GST reforms,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister stated that the revisions would simplify the tax structure and reduce rates on essential goods and daily necessities.
“Tax rates on essential goods and daily needs will be reduced under a simplified framework. This will bring significant relief and convenience. Our MSMEs and small industries will also benefit greatly from these changes,” he noted.
According to the PM, the reforms aim to directly benefit consumers and small-scale industries by easing the tax load and improving affordability. The initiative is positioned as a major festival-time relief for households and a boost for the small business ecosystem.
