Maharashtra Phone Tapping Case: Court Fixes March 1 For Next Hearing

The case of Maharashtra phone tapping case against IPS Rashmi Shukla has been referred for March 1, 2023.

The investigating officer of Colaba Police Station on Tuesday requested more time from Esplanade Magistrate court to respond to IPS officer Rashmi Shukla’s discharge petition.

An FIR was filed against IPS Shukla in the Maharashtra government’s phone tapping case, which was registered during the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government’s tenure. She was accused of tapping the phone calls of Shiv Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Eknath Khadse.

Considering the investigation baseless, Shukla claimed that the FIR was “registered on the basis of a motivated complaint only with the intention of harassing her.”

As the chief of the State Intelligence Department, she claimed to have the necessary authorization from the government to conduct phone taps. In her discharge plea, she stated that the investigators lacked the necessary authorization from the appropriate authority to bring a case against her.

Although this is not the only matter that involves against Shukla. Recently, with the change in government last year, Pune Police, which had registered the phone tapping case against her, sought closure of the case. However, the Magistrate court there rejected the request and directed the Pune Police to conduct further investigation.
