Police has arrested a man in Mumbai’s Thane district for killing his co-worker ten years ago in Uttarakhand.
Nagraj, also known as Tilakraj Singh, a resident of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, was apprehended in Mumbai, stated Superintendent of Police Ayush Agarwal of Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF).
“He was brought to Lamgara police station in Almora today on a transit remand,” Agarwal added.
The incident dates back to October 14, 2014, when a partially burnt skeleton was discovered in Lamgara. The victim was later identified as Gulab Singh from Pundal village in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, Agarwal explained.
Investigations revealed that Gulab Singh and Nagraj were acquaintances who worked together as resin collectors in Almora and shared a residence. A dispute arose between them, leading Nagraj to allegedly kill Gulab Singh with a sharp weapon and attempt to conceal his identity by burning his face. Subsequently, Nagraj fled to his hometown in Mandi.
Despite efforts to apprehend Nagraj after confirming his involvement in the crime, he managed to evade capture by fleeing from Mandi. His residence was seized by the police, but he remained elusive.
Recently, two STF personnel were dispatched to Mandi, where they gathered intelligence indicating Nagraj’s presence in Mumbai. The STF team then conducted operations in Mumbai, collaborating with local authorities, resulting in Nagraj’s arrest.
During interrogation, Nagraj revealed that he had been residing in Mumbai for the past decade under an assumed identity, employed in various hotels and restaurants. For the last three months, he had been working at ‘Paya Soup Bar’ under Thane’s Antophill police station, Agarwal disclosed.
