Man Booked For Circulating Private Video Of Estranged Live-in Partner

A 29-year-old man in Maharashtra’s Thane district has been booked for allegedly circulating a private video of a woman on a social messaging platform after their live-in relationship ended, according to police officials. The accused, Kiran Bagrao from Shahapur, was named in a complaint filed by the 47-year-old woman.

What The Case Says?

The victim stated in her complaint that she had been in a live-in relationship with Bagrao. During their time together, he took gold jewelry from her and once recorded a video of her while she was taking a bath. After she decided to end the relationship and asked for her ornaments back, Bagrao allegedly circulated the video on WhatsApp.

When the woman refused to meet with him, Bagrao threatened her with dire consequences and even issued death threats, the police official said. The couple had been in a live-in relationship from August 2022 to January 2023 in Dombivli and Majiwada, the official added.

The First Information Report (FIR) against Bagrao includes charges under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC): 406 (criminal breach of trust), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (uttering any word or making any gesture intended to insult the modesty of a woman), as well as provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act. Local police are continuing their investigation into the crime.
