A case has been filed against a 38-year-old man for smoking inside the lavatory of a Mumbai-bound flight from Delhi, police confirmed on Friday.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening aboard an IndiGo flight from the national capital to the financial hub, the official stated. The flight, carrying 176 passengers, departed from Delhi airport at approximately 5:15 pm. About 50 minutes before landing at Mumbai airport, Khalil Kajammul Khan, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, went to the toilet, he explained.

Upon smoking a cigarette inside the lavatory, Khan triggered smoke sensors, alerting the cabin crew, the official mentioned. Following his exit, crew members inspected the lavatory and discovered a matchstick and a cigarette stub. They promptly reported their findings to superiors, he added. Khan later confessed to smoking inside the lavatory when questioned by the crew, according to the official.

Upon landing at Mumbai airport, security personnel were informed and Khan was taken to Sahar police station. A case has been registered against him under the Indian Penal Code and Aircraft Rules, the official concluded.
