The Delhi Police has apprehended a 28-year-old man for molesting a 16-year-old teenager boy in a moving metro.
The boy recounted his ordeal on X in a series of posts, describing how a fellow passenger attempted to touch his private parts and subsequently stalked him within the station premises upon changing trains.
The alleged incident occurred on the night of 3rs May (Friday) at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station.
The accused, Jitender Gautam, is a graduate and works in an organization under the daily wages scheme.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Dr G Ramgopal Naik disclosed that a specialized team from the metro division, led by Inspectors Sameer Srivastava and Tej Dutt Gaur, was formed to investigate the case.
Following a thorough review of CCTV footage spanning 15 metro stations from Rajiv Chowk to Jahangir Puri, police determined that Gautam disembarked the train at Jahangir Puri Metro Station.
“The travel history of the accused was examined, revealing that he boarded the metro from Kaushambi. Subsequently, teams were dispatched to Jahangir Puri and Kaushambi Metro stations to establish his identity and whereabouts,” a police officer stated.
Additional CCTV footage from the vicinity of Kaushambi Metro Station was reviewed, leading to the identification of Gautam using the service road after exiting the metro.
Numerous shopkeepers, guards, and locals were questioned about Gautam, and they were shown his photograph. After diligent efforts, he was identified and apprehended from Ambedkar Colony in northwest Delhi.
Police stated that Gautam has no prior criminal record but is currently undergoing interrogation.
He has been charged under section 355 of the IPC and section 8 of the POCSO Act at Rajiv Chowk Metro Police station.
