A cyclone named ‘Michong’ is moving towards west-central Bay of Bengal, close to south Andhra Pradesh and adjacent north Tamil Nadu coasts.
Puducherry district administration has imposed Section 144 of the IPC in the coastal areas along the coast of Puducherry.
To prevent any possible loss of life and property, the district administration has banned movement of all persons in the coastal areas near the beaches from 7 pm onwards. 3rd December till 6pm on 5th December.
A circular issued by the District Magistrate of Puducherry said, “Movement of all persons on coastal areas close to the sea coast of Puducherry will be restricted from 19:00 hrs on 3/12/2023 to 6:00 am on 5/12 ”
The official notice further states, “Any person violating this order may be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine, or with both.”
On 1 December, the Indian Meteorological Department issued an ‘Orange’ alert for northern coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, warning of extremely heavy rainfall on 3 December and heavy/very heavy rainfall on 4 December.
According to the weather department’s warning on Monday morning, “CS Michong lies centered over west central and adjoining south West Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts, about 110 km east-northeast of Chennai, 190 km east of Nellore.” km southeast, 210 km northeast of Puducherry, 310 km south-southeast of Bapatla and 330 km southeast of Machilipatnam at 0530 hours on 4 December. Moving north-northwestward during the morning of 5 December as a SCS, It is likely to intensify further and cross between Nellore and Machilipatnam near Bapatla.
Cyclone Michong, developing over the Bay of Bengal, is likely to make landfall between Nellore and Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday morning with winds reaching speeds of up to 100 kmph.
The cyclonic storm is currently situated over the south-west Bay of Bengal and is expected to move north-westwards, intensify further and reach west-central Bay of Bengal by Monday morning, passing through south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts. hopefully.
