Minor Sexual Assault: Maharashtra Court Grants Man 5 Yrs Of Rigorous Imprisonment

A man has been sentenced to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl in Thane district, Maharashtra.

Special judge D.S. Deshmukh delivered the verdict on Saturday, finding the accused, a resident of Diva, guilty under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the offender. Special public prosecutor Sandhya H. Mhatre explained that the accused and the victim were neighbors. The assault occurred on September 17, 2022, when the child was playing outside her home, and the accused enticed her into his residence before committing the crime.

During the trial, five witnesses testified against the accused.
