Molestation Case: Bengal Guv Bose Files Defamation Suit Against Mamata Banerjee

The West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has recently filed a defamation case against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This legal action follows Banerjee’s recent claims that women expressed fear of visiting the Raj Bhavan due to certain activities taking place there.

The controversy began a few weeks prior when a contractual employee accused Governor Bose of “molestation,” prompting an investigation by the Kolkata Police. In response to similar allegations made by some Trinamool Congress (TMC) employees, Bose also filed additional defamation cases.

A source informed PTI, “Governor CV Ananda Bose on Friday moved the Calcutta High Court and filed a defamation suit against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party leaders for their comments.”

During an administrative meeting at the state secretariat, Banerjee stated, “Women have informed her they are afraid to visit Raj Bhavan due to recent incidents reported there.”

Reactions from TMC and BJP

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen refrained from commenting extensively without consulting her party leaders. “I have to talk to my party leadership to find out what actually happened. This is quite a sensitive matter,” Sen told PTI.

Conversely, senior BJP leader Rahul Sinha expressed strong support for Bose’s decision. “I think Governor Bose has taken the right decision. He should have taken this decision long back. I fully support him for this,” said Sinha.

Concerns from CPI(M) Leader

Sujan Chakraborty, a prominent leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in West Bengal, criticized the ongoing conflict between Bose and Banerjee. “It’s actually taking us down. They seem to have forgotten their Constitutional responsibilities. Their acts are damaging West Bengal’s image at the national level,” Chakraborty remarked.

This high-profile dispute underscores the growing tension between the state’s political leadership and the Raj Bhavan, raising significant concerns about governance and public perception in West Bengal.
