The Chennai court on Thursday transferred the money laundering case pending against arrested Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji to a special court for MPs and MLAs.
The Principal Sessions Judge, S Alli, who presided over the case, formally received the charge sheet submitted by the ED on August 12 against the aforementioned minister. Following this, the judge accepted the case and proceeded to reassign it to the specialized court that exclusively handles cases concerning MPs and MLAs.
The judge said in order, “Complaint and records perused. Taken on file under section 3 and 4 of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Case made over (transferred) to the special court No.1 for the trial of cases relating to MPs and MLAs of Tamil Nadu.”
The upcoming court session for this case has been scheduled for August 28.
Previously, Senthil Balaji had been taken into custody by the ED on June 14, as part of an investigation into a cash-for-jobs scandal that transpired during his tenure as Transport Minister in the preceding AIADMK regime.
