Sources indicated that, on Monday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the premises of Karnataka Congress MLA K Y Nanjegowda and a few of his linked entities as a part of a money laundering investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The 61-year-old Congress MLA represents the Malur seat in the Karnataka assembly. Nanjegowda is also the president of the Kolar-Chikkaballapur Milk Union Ltd.
The ED case is understood to have been filed on the basis of some local police FIRs which relate to the alleged irregularities in staff appointment in the Kolar-Chikkaballapur District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd. (KOMUL), of which he is the president along with some other charges.
Sources confirmed that the office and plant of the milk cooperative in Kolar are also being searched. According to KOMUL, it is Karnataka’s second highest milk producing district organisation. The portal said, “The area of operation is restricted to Kolar and Chikkaballapura districts having 2,919 villages of 11 revenue Taluks,”
