On April 10, 2024, Naresh Goyal was denied permanent bail on medical grounds. Naresh Goyal is now seeking bail from the Bombay High Court. The grounds on which he has filed a bail rely on his medical report, and they have also attached a psychological report wherein it is claimed that the founder of Jet Airways has been severely depressed.
The ED detained Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal on September 1, last year, in connection with an alleged bank fraud. Naresh Goyal is accused of the alleged Rs 538 crore fraud at Canara Bank. It said he laundered money and stole loans totaling Rs 538 crore issued to Jet Airways by Canara Bank.
Naresh Goyal is being represented by Advocate Harish Salve and Advocate Aabad Ponda. They have submitted before the honorable court that Naresh Goyal is suffering from cancer and is currently in a very serious situation. Moreover, through their plea, they have also highlighted a psychological report that states that the accused is severely depressed. They also state before the court that the accused’s wife is suffering from terminal cancer, and Naresh Goyal is the primary caregiver for his wife. They challenge the order passed on April 10, saying that the court didn’t account for the post-treatment care, for which the jail does not provide a suitable environment.
Advocate Harish Salve requested that bail be granted on humanitarian grounds under Article 21 of the Constitution so that he may be with his wife.
Justice NJ Jamadar sought ED’s response and scheduled a hearing for May 3.
