The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has dismantled a significant interstate drug trafficking network and seized 31.50 kgs of mephedrone (MD) valued at Rs 60 crore, along with Rs 69.13 lakh in cash. Three individuals were arrested in Mumbai, officials stated..
According to officials, NCB operatives disrupted the drug syndicate led by peddler Musharaf J K and his associates in the Nagpada area of south Mumbai, based on specific intelligence.
“On Wednesday, intelligence sources confirmed a large consignment of drugs being delivered by Musharaf. Subsequently, a team was deployed in Nagpada for discreet surveillance,” stated an NCB release.
Musharaf was intercepted in Nagpada, leading to the seizure of 10 kgs of mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant drug. During interrogation, he disclosed the location of a nearby storage facility. A search at a residence occupied by a woman named Nausheen yielded an additional 10.5 kgs of mephedrone, along with drug proceeds amounting to Rs 69.13 lakh, officials reported.
The NCB also received information about a drug carrier identified as Saif, scheduled to deliver a consignment. Saif was apprehended in the Wadala area, with 11 kgs of mephedrone recovered from him.
“The seized contraband was intended for distribution across various parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR),” the release noted.
Officials emphasized that the drug trafficking syndicate had been operational for an extended period.
