A Supreme Court lawyer on Saturday filed a case against Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and others.
He accused them of making “provocative” remarks about President Murmu’s caste in connection with the inauguration of the new parliament building on May 28.
The complaint has been filed by Vineet Jindal (advocate and social activist of the Supreme Court of India).
The complainant said that, such statements by the influential political leaders on caste grounds and against the duly elected government to provoke enmity between communities/groups are highly condemnable.
The Complainant asked Sanjay Arora, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Delhi to lodge a FIR against them and take strict legal action.
The complainant stated that, “I am a law-abiding citizen and practicing lawyer in the Supreme Court of India. I am filing this complaint against Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Arvind Kejriwal, CM Delhi, and others who have made provocative, inflammatory, disparaging and inflammatory statements with the sole aim of fomenting enmity between communities by mentioning the caste of India President Droupadi Murmu.”
Further, referring to the speeches of various leading politicians at the inauguration event, the complainant quoted one of the alleged speeches by Kharge, “It looks like the Modi Government has ensured the election of President of India from the Dalit and the Tribal communities only for electoral reasons. While former President, Kovind was not invited to the new Parliament foundation-laying ceremony, the President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu is not being invited for the inauguration of the new Parliament building”.
The complaint also shared one of the purported tweets of CM Arvind Kejriwal in Hindi regarding the inaugural event.
The complaint said that “The statements by Kharge and Kajriwal were deliberately made to refer to the caste of the President of India, with the aim of portraying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the current government deliberately did not invite the President to the inauguration of the new Parliament building.”
As per the complainant, these statements are widely published & circulated in news and social media that might result in provoking the ST & Adivasi community as the President too belongs to Adivasi and ST communities.
It said that, “Political leaders, for the sake of their political gain, should not be allowed to stoop to the level of dishonoring the highest constitutional offices. Moreover, this would create fear among the people and create distrust in the duly elected government, which would constitute crimes under Sections 121, 153A, 505and 34 IPC, which are cognitive crimes and are very severe.”
