NHRC Issue Notice To Punjab Govt Over The Irregularities & Deriliction Of Duties By GNDH Staff

NHRC

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) recently issued a notice to the Chief Secretary (Punjab) on matter alleging that doctors and senior staff at the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital (GNDH) are not sincerely carrying out their lawful duty to attend to patients.

Most of them habitually leave the patients at the mercy of the housekeeping and training staff and depart early. According to reports, the patients are subjected to ill-treatment and are threatened with discharge if a complaint is filed against them.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the media report, if true, amount to a violation of the patients’ human rights and are a matter of concern to it.

As a result, it has served a notice on the Chief Secretary of the Government of Punjab, requesting a detailed report on the matter within four weeks.

It should also include the steps taken or proposed to be taken to address the issue raised in the news report, as well as the actions taken against the doctors and staff who were found to be at fault in the matter.

According to a media report published on May 17, 2023, it takes hours for the hospital’s nursing staff to administer prescribed medicines and injections to a patient.
