NIA Attaches Property Of Separatist Leader In Srinagar

The National Investigation Agency has attached two properties belonging to separatist leader Mohammad Akbar Khanday in the Maloora Shalteng region of Srinagar.

The notice posted by the NIA states that, “This is to inform all members of the public that the immovable property i.e., land measuring 1 Kanal and 10 Marlas under Survey No. 31 at Mauza Shalteng, Tehsil Srinagar (J&K), in the name of Mohammad Akbar Khanday has been attached under Court Orders dated 31 May 2023, in RC-10/2017 /NIA/DLI, by the Special NIA Court, Patiala House Courts, New Delhi.”

Previously the NIA attached 17 properties of Zahoor Ahmed Shah Watali on Monday in connection with the Hurriyat terror funding case, wherein Yasin Malik, commander of the Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), is serving life imprisonment.

Besides Malik, 17 others, including Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, Amir of Jammat-ud-Dawah, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander, and Mohd Yusuf Shah alias Syed Salahuddin, commander of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, were charged in the case, which was registered suo moto by the NIA on 30 May 2017.

Malik was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, along with a fine, in May 2022, for his involvement in various charges related to terrorist and secessionist activities in Jammu & Kashmir carried out by banned organizations, including LeT, JKLF, and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), with support from the ISI.

The NIA stated that these outfits were responsible for spreading terror, perpetrating violence, and conducting attacks on civilians and security forces.

It further revealed that these banned terrorist groups were utilizing the All Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC), formed in 1993, as a front to carry out and support secessionist activities in Kashmir.
