The National Investigation Agency is currently executing coordinated raids in Assam as part of a broader investigation into the activities of the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group.
This operation extends beyond Assam to several other states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi.
In connection with these efforts, Assam police have apprehended eight individuals from the Goalpara district. These detainees have since been handed over to the NIA for further investigation.
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the development on Saturday, stating, “Today the NIA has conducted a nationwide operation against Islamic fundamentalists. The Assam police were also given the responsibility and apprehended eight people and handed them over to the NIA.”
The operations are ongoing, and Nabaneet Mahanta, the Superintendent of Police for Goalpara district, provided additional insights into the situation. He indicated that law enforcement is still active in two to three locations within Goalpara. “The operation is underway at Krishnai and Agia areas in Goalpara district. A few people have been picked up for interrogation.”
This nationwide operation highlights the Indian government’s proactive approach to combating terrorism and Islamic extremism. The NIA’s efforts are part of a larger strategy to dismantle terror networks operating within the country.
By collaborating with local police forces, the NIA aims to enhance the efficiency of its operations and ensure that all leads are thoroughly pursued.
The Jaish-e-Mohammed, which is recognized for its extremist ideology and violent activities, poses a significant threat to national security. The recent raids reflect an increasing urgency to address such threats decisively.
As the situation develops, more details regarding the operation and the individuals apprehended are anticipated.
The ongoing NIA operation signifies a coordinated national effort to counteract the influence and activities of terror organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammed. The involvement of local police in the operation underscores the collaborative approach taken by authorities to ensure safety and security in the region.
Further updates are expected as investigations continue and law enforcement agencies remain vigilant against any potential threats.
