Outraging Modesty Case: SC Makes Absolute Order Granting Anticipatory Bail To Srinivas BV

The Supreme Court on Friday made absolute the interim anticipatory bail earlier granted to Indian Youth Congress president Srinivas BV in a case filed against him for allegedly outraging the modesty of a Congress worker.

A Bench comprising of Justices BR Gavai, Aravind Kumar and Prashant Kumar Mishra passed the order after noting that Srinivas cooperated with the investigation.

The interim anticipatory bail was granted to Srinivas by the Supreme Court in May this year.

The order was passed on a plea by Srinivas challenging an order of the Gauhati High Court that refused to quash the FIR lodged against him.

Srinivas claimed that the complaint failed to make out the offences alleged. It was also been stressed that the Assam Police had no jurisdiction to investigate or register an FIR for an offence that allegedly taken place in Chhattisgarh.

The complaint in question was lodged by a woman who alleged that during the plenary session of the Congress Party held at the Mayfair Hotel in Raipur on March 25, she was heckled at the entrance of the hotel by Srinivas, who allegedly held her arms and also threatened her by using slang words.

Furthermore, the complainant claimed that Srinivas threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident to the high office bearers of the Congress Party.

She claimed, despite informing the high office bearers of the Congress Party about his behaviour, no action was taken.
