The Patiala House Court on Friday took cognizance of a case filed under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against Gangster Deepak Pahal, alias Boxer.
The allegation is that Deepak Boxer is a member of the crime syndicate associated with the Gogi gang. He was a fugitive in this case and was arrested on April 15, 2023, after his deportation from Mexico earlier that year.
Special Judge Shailender Malik of the Patiala House Court has listed the matter for hearing arguments on the charges against Deepak Boxer on August 9.
The Delhi Police filed a charge sheet against gangster Deepak Boxer on July 13.
In this case, 15 other accused are in custody, and charges have been framed against them. The proceedings are currently at the stage of prosecution evidence.
The court rejected the extension of the investigation period related to Deepak Boxer, leading to the filing of the supplementary charge sheet.
On July 11, the court declined to extend the investigation period beyond 90 days in a case against Deepak Boxer.
Further, the court emphasized that investigating agencies are expected to conduct investigations diligently and promptly without unnecessary delays, as it involves the valuable right to liberty of the accused.
The court referred to the relevant provisions of MCOCA, which allow for an extension of the investigation period in situations where despite sincere efforts, the nature of the case, facts, and evidence make it impossible to complete the investigation within 90 days.
