A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been moved to the Delhi High Court on Tuesday seeking direction against the alleged animal skin-melting activities in the Motia Khan Masjid area of the national capital.
The plea contends that individuals within said locality engage in the substantial utilization of ‘Charbis’ derived from animals’ skins. These materials are processed in large ‘Karhais,’ ultimately yielding harmful ghee products. Subsequent to this processing, the products are sold in contravention of pollution guidelines established by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and other pertinent higher authorities and also make it difficult to breathe in fresh and healthy air by local person.
The petitioner sought direction for the MCD and Station House Officer of the concerned area to take appropriate action in this regard.
After noting the submissions, the bench comprising Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Narula asked the council for respondents’ authorities to take appropriate action in connection to this matter.
The petitioner, Faraz Khan, a practicing legal professional, emphasized in the plea that the local residents have registered multiple objections to these practices.
However, such objections have threatened dire consequences.
The plea asserts that these malefactors engage in the melting of animal skins within extensive ‘Karhais,’ thereby emitting a great smell into the surroundings.
The plea added, “This is a clear violation of the Article 21 of the Constitution of India which states that freedom of right to liberty is snatched by the said erring persons.”
