Plea In Kerala HC Seeking Law To Prohibit Practice Of Black Magic

A plea has been filed on Wednesday in Kerala High court that seeks to pass the law to prohibit the practise of black magic, inhuman evil practices and sorcery in the society.

A bench headed by the Chief Justice S Manikumar had considered the plea and issues Notice to government for the reason of the delay in passing such a statute.

The court therefore stated that it will further hear the matter after two weeks.

The writ petition which is filed by Kerala Yukthi Vadhi Sangam (KYVS) claims to stand for humanism, rationalism, spirit of inquiry, scientific temper, told High Court that the state continuedly witness crimes related to the superstitious beliefs.

The plea filed through lawyer P V Jeevesh stated “Currently, there are no adequate provisions in the general penal statute to prohibit the same or to be otherwise dealt with…Karnataka and Maharashtra are two states which have passed statutes in this regard.”

The petition sought in the consideration and decision of recommendation of law reforms commission report 2019 with the enactment of ‘The Kerala Prevention of Eradication of Inhuman Evil Practices, Sorcery and black magic Bill-2019’.

It therefore sought to declare the human sacrifice & other inhuman, evil barbaric practises/black magic, and witchcraft centres etc as illegal.

The plea also sought to declare that films, serials, telefilms having content of superstitious beliefs as illegal.
