The Prime Minister- Narendra Modi led high-powered committee is scheduled to convene on March 15 to finalize the appointments of new Election Commissioners. Following the retirement of Election Commissioner Anoop Chandra Pandey last month and the sudden resignation of Arun Goyal, two vacancies have emerged within the Election Commission. Alongside the Prime Minister, the selection committee will include a Union Minister and Lok Sabha Congress leader, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

But As per latest News the Congress leader Jaya Thakur has reached Supreme Court Challenging the appointment process of new two election commissioners.

On March 15, the selection committee will convene to decide on the appointment of new election commissioners, whose final selection will be made by the President. Arun Goyal resigned from his position as Election Commissioner on Saturday, just days before the potential announcement of the Lok Sabha election schedule by the Election Commission. President Draupadi Murmu accepted his resignation on Saturday, as announced by the Law Ministry through a notification.

Decisions Regarding the Vacancies With Arun Goyal’s departure, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar remains the sole member of the Election Commission. A search committee, chaired by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, will compile two separate panels of five names each for the vacant positions. This committee will include the Home Secretary and the Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT). Regarding Arun Goyal’s resignation, sources suggest it may be due to personal reasons, dismissing speculation of any differences with Rajiv Kumar. Internal communications and decisions indicate no recorded disagreements from Goyal’s end. Notably, Goyal, who resigned on Friday, was absent from a crucial meeting between the Election Commission and top officials of the Home Ministry and Railways, focusing on the deployment and movement of central forces across India for election duty.
