Police have apprehended a 27-year-old female lawyer for allegedly coercing a hotelier in Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai township into giving her Rs 12 lakh.
The suspect purportedly threatened the 43-year-old man, stating that unless he complied with her demand, she would persist with a complaint lodged against his hotel in Vashi with the local civic body, ultimately leading to its closure. Authorities disclosed that on Wednesday, she accepted the sum from the hotelier at a cafe in Vashi, where the Navi Mumbai crime unit sleuths intercepted her.
The official from Vashi police station mentioned that the police arrested the accused, a resident of Nerul area, and confiscated her Aadhaar card, Bar Council ID, and visiting cards. She has been charged under section 383 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for extortion.
