Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district have dismantled a narcotics module allegedly connected to handlers based in Pakistan, seizing heroin-like substances valued at Rs 50 crore, officials reported.

Tip-Off Worked

Acting on a tip-off, authorities in the Uri area of Baramulla initiated investigations into Mehmood Ahmad Najar and Sajad Ahmad Malik for their purported involvement in narcotics trafficking.

“The suspects were apprehended and, during interrogation, they divulged information regarding the concealment of contraband substances and cash in Churanda village,” officials stated.

Searched

A search team, accompanied by a magistrate, scoured the area and unearthed the contraband substances and cash as disclosed.

The pair also implicated Fayaz Ahmad Hajam in the smuggling operation, alleging that he facilitated the transportation of contraband from Pakistan.

“Hajam was taken into custody and, under questioning, he disclosed the whereabouts of additional contraband, subsequently recovered by the police in the presence of a magistrate,” officials added.

To date, authorities have seized contraband weighing 7.80 kg (with an estimated value of approximately Rs 50 crore) and cash amounting to Rs 12,63,500 from this network with ties to handlers in Pakistan.
