Police Constable Road Rage Case: Habeas Corpus Filed For Accused Wife In Delhi HC

Habeas Corpus

The incident resulted in the death of Delhi Police Constable Sandeep, aged 30. The counsel informed the court that the wife of the accused has been taken into custody by the Delhi Police.

The advocate emphasized that the accused fled the scene, while a family member—the wife—was detained instead.

The bench, led by Chief Justice Manmohan and including Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, has scheduled a hearing for October 1 to examine the legality of the wife’s detention.

Through the habeas corpus petition, the advocate is seeking the release of the accused’s wife from what is claimed to be illegal detention.

The incident in question occurred in the Nangloi area two days prior, where Constable Sandeep was tragically killed after being dragged approximately 10 meters by a speeding vehicle. Reports indicate that Sandeep had observed the driver’s reckless behavior and requested that he slow down.

Instead of complying, the driver accelerated, colliding with Sandeep’s motorcycle and dragging him along the road before crashing into another vehicle.

The car involved in the incident has been seized; however, the driver remains at large. CCTV footage from the vicinity has captured the moments leading up to the collision, which is assisting the ongoing police investigation.

The case has prompted a serious investigation, as authorities continue to search for the accused driver who fled the scene.
