The Navi Mumbai police have filed an FIR against three individuals for allegedly promoting enmity between different groups through a video concerning former Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare, an official stated on Thursday.
The complainant, Suresh Rama Gaikwad (49) from Turbhe in Navi Mumbai, informed the police that the accused created the video titled ‘Salute to Hemant Karkare (Based on true Event)’ and uploaded it on YouTube, which he viewed on April 22.
According to the complaint lodged on Wednesday, the accused purported the video to be a true account while it allegedly contained misinformation. The video purportedly depicted Brahmins engaging in terrorist activities and falsely implicating Muslims in cases, as quoted by an official from Turbhe police station.
Following the complaint, the FIR was lodged against three individuals and their unnamed team members.
The case has been registered under sections 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups), 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 298 (uttering words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, as confirmed by the police.
It is to be noted that Hemant Karkare was tragically killed during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
