The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Ali Muhammad Khan has recently sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand by a local court in Mardan in a corruption case.
This comes after his 6th arrest in another corruption case shortly after being released by an anti-corruption court in Peshawar.
Previously, the court granted interim bail to Khan in a case related to alleged fraudulent hiring in the fisheries department, resulting in losses to the national treasury.
However, he was taken into custody by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in another case involving embezzlement of funds in various contracts.
Initially arrested on May 11 for his involvement in violent protests and attacks on civil & military installations, Khan’s arrest triggered widespread protests across the country.
The arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan from the Islamabad High Court in the Al-Qadir Trust case triggered violent protests almost across the country.
The days-long protests ended only after the PTI chief’s release and enraged party workers allegedly attacked private and public properties, including military installations like the Lahore Corps Commander’s House or Jinnah House and the General Headquarters (GHQ) entrance in Rawalpindi.
After the release of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, the protests subsided, but incidents of property damage and casualties were reported.
Moreover, at least eight people lost their lives during the violent protests.
Imran Khan was released from prison on June 9 after being cleared of all cases related to the May 9 violence. However, he was immediately taken into custody by ACE officials in a separate corruption case.
During the recent court proceedings, Judicial Magistrate Malik Zeeshan Gul rejected ACE’s request for physical remand of Ali Muhammad Khan, despite it being a public holiday.
