Pune Porsche Crash: Police Seeks Extension for Juvenile Remand

Pune Porsche Crash

The Pune police have filed an application before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), seeking a 14-day extension for the remand of a 17-year-old boy allegedly involved in a car crash that resulted in the deaths of two individuals, an official stated on Wednesday.
The juvenile, currently housed at an observation home in Pune, is scheduled to complete his remand on Wednesday. “We have submitted an application before the JJB, requesting an additional 14 days for his remand at the observation home,” stated a Pune crime branch official.
A hearing regarding the Pune police’s plea is scheduled today before the JJB.

Details of the Accident

The fatal accident occurred in the early hours of May 19 in Kalyani Nagar, Pune, where a Porsche allegedly driven by the juvenile collided with a two-wheeler, resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals. The police allege that the juvenile was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Shortly after the accident, the JJB granted bail to the teenager, who is the son of a real estate developer, and instructed him to compose a 300-word essay on road safety. However, amidst widespread criticism, the police approached the JJB again, leading to a modification of the order.

Consequently, the accused juvenile was remanded to the observation home until June 5.

Arrests So Far

In connection with the case, the police have arrested the juvenile’s father, mother, two doctors, and another staff member of the state-run Sassoon General Hospital for allegedly tampering with blood samples by swapping them with those of the juvenile’s mother.

Additionally, the juvenile’s grandfather has been arrested in connection with the incident.
On Tuesday, the police arrested two additional individuals suspected of acting as intermediaries and facilitating financial transactions between the accused doctors and the juvenile’s father.
