Ram Gopal Yadav Stokes Row Over ‘Abusive’ Rant At CJI, Clarifies Later

Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav addressed controversy on Monday following a viral video in which he appeared to insult the Chief Justice of India regarding remarks about the Ayodhya verdict.

According to the sources, Yadav responded to a question about the CJI’s comments, stating, “When you bring the dead back to life, they turn into ghosts and haunt the public,” while using a cuss word.

However, he later clarified that he was not asked about the CJI specifically.

“Nobody asked me anything about the CJI. The CJI is a very reputed person. I never made any comment (on him). I was asked about Bahraich (violence) and I responded to that,” he asserted.

CJI D.Y. Chandrachud had previously expressed his thoughts on the long-standing Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute, stating that he prayed for a solution. He noted, “Very often we have cases (to adjudicate) but we don’t arrive at a solution. Something similar happened during the Ayodhya dispute which was in front of me for three months. I sat before the deity and told him he needs to find a solution.”

He added, “Believe me, if you have faith, God will always find a way.”

On November 9, 2019, a 5-judge bench led by then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi resolved this historic issue, allowing the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya and designating an alternative 5-acre plot for a mosque in the city.

CJI Chandrachud was part of the bench that delivered this landmark ruling.
