Rashmika Mandanna

The Delhi Police has written to Meta to provide the URL(Uniform Resource Locator) of the account responsible for circulating the ‘deep fake’ video featuring actress Rashmika Mandanna on social media. This move came a day after the filing of an FIR by the city police regarding the incident.

An officer stated that the Delhi Police has also asked for information about the individuals who shared the counterfeit video on social media platforms. “We’ve requested Meta to provide the URL ID linked to the creation of the video,” shared an officer familiar with the investigations with PTI.

The FIR, registered under sections 465 (forgery) and 469 (forgery for the purpose of harming reputation) of the Indian Penal Code, alongside sections 66C and 66E of the Information Technology Act, was lodged at the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit of the Delhi Police’s Special Cell.

An officer mentioned the formation of a specialized team to handle the case. “We anticipate a swift resolution in cracking the case.”

In addition, the Delhi Commission for Women issued a notice to the city police regarding the video, seeking action against those involved.

The viral deep fake video of Rashmika Madanna, suspected to have been created with the assistance of Artificial Intelligence (AI), surfaced on social media last week. The original video was purportedly of a British-Indian influencer, with Mandanna’s face digitally inserted into the footage.
