Two individuals suspected of criminal activity, including the ringleader of the ‘Gataru gang’, were detained under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, as per police reports.

Sumit Jandyal, also known as “Gataru”, and his brother Sourav Gupta, both residents of Vijaypur, have been subjected to this administrative law, which permits detention without charge or trial for up to two years in certain cases.

Criminal Activities

“The brothers are known to be engaged in criminal activities in an organized manner, thus posing a serious threat to public peace and order,” stated a police spokesperson, highlighting that their gang is implicated in various offenses including attempted murder, robbery, breach of peace, extortion, cheating, and land grabbing.
