Rohini Court Questions Probe In Attempted Murder Case, Directs DCP To Respond

The Rohini Principal District and Sessions Judge, Nisha Sahay Saxena, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the North-West District to appear before the court to provide clarifications in an ongoing attempted murder case.

The move comes after significant gaps in the investigation were highlighted during the proceedings.

Investigative Oversights

The court pointed out that although the charge sheet was submitted on May 4, 2025, the original medico-legal certificate (MLC) of the injured person has yet to be included in the case record. Additionally, the charge sheet fails to mention the involvement of co-accused Sujal, who is alleged to have fired at the victim and remains absconding.

The judge remarked, “Due to lapse on part of the Investigation Officer, the bail application of other accused persons is being delayed. DCP North-West is directed to appear in person before court for further clarifications in the matter.”

The next hearing has been scheduled for September 18, 2025, when the statement of the injured person will also be recorded.

Defence Argues Unfair Targeting Of Accused

During the hearing, advocate Ravi Drall, representing accused Ankit, argued that his client has been unfairly drawn into the case. He stated that while Ankit has remained in custody, the primary accused, Sujal, has neither been arrested nor declared a proclaimed offender.

Drall further highlighted the background of animosity between the complainant and Sujal, pointing out that multiple cases are pending against each other. “Ankit was pulled into the case unfairly after declining to associate with either group, and his implication rests largely on a disclosure statement,” Drall submitted. He also claimed that the investigating officer overlooked the role of the main accused in the incident.

The defence also pointed to another co-accused’s request to preserve CCTV footage from nearby cameras. According to the counsel, this footage could shed light on whether the incident occurred as described in the FIR.

Case Background

The case stems from an FIR registered on February 3, 2025, at the Jahangir Puri police station concerning an alleged attempt to murder. Three accused—Harsh alias Achu, Ankit alias Niranjan, and Girish alias Khema—were arrested and are presently in judicial custody.

Their bail applications have been pending since July due to the incomplete investigation.
