Saket Bar Body To Abstain From Work On July 19

The Saket Court Bar Association on Friday announced that its members will abstain from work on July 19 in protest against the registration of an FIR against some of its members.

The decision came following an emergency executive committee meeting held around 3 PM the same day.

Lawyers Allege Police Bias

In an official circular, the association expressed “strong resentment” over what it described as the “biased approach of the police” in targeting lawyers.

“There is a strong resentment amongst the members of the bar against the biased approach of police, where they are proactive in registering FIR against lawyers, but when it comes to taking action against erring police officials, they make every possible endeavour to shield them,” the circular read.

The bar association strongly condemned this alleged differential treatment and called for accountability and fairness from law enforcement authorities.

Complete Abstention From Work

The association has unanimously resolved to completely abstain from work on Saturday, July 19. Members have been requested not to appear physically or virtually in court proceedings.

To mitigate any potential inconvenience to litigants, the association has arranged for proxy counsels to appear in necessary matters:

“Proxy counsels have been appointed to represent the interest of the lawyers concerned before the courts, wherever necessary, to avoid any inconvenience or adverse consequences to litigants,” said the circular, signed by association secretary Anil Kumar Basoya.

Call For Fairness

This one-day boycott signals rising tensions between the bar and the police. While the specific details of the FIR have not been disclosed, the protest underscores a broader demand from the legal community for impartiality in law enforcement actions and equal treatment for members of the judiciary and police alike.

The protest is likely to affect proceedings at the Saket District Court complex on Saturday, though efforts have been made to minimize disruptions to justice delivery.
