Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet against suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shahajahan Sheikh and six others regarding the January 5 assault on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in Sandeshkhali.
According to reports, the agency filed its initial charge sheet in the case before a special court on Monday.
During a raid at Sheikh’s residence related to the multi-crore ration distribution scam in West Bengal, the ED team encountered an attack from a mob of approximately 1,000 individuals.
Officials stated that the team had moved to apprehend Sheikh due to his purported close ties with the detained former state food minister Jyoti Priya Mallick, who is under scrutiny in the scam.
Sandeshkhali, situated approximately 80 km from Kolkata, has garnered attention following allegations of land usurpation and sexual misconduct by Sheikh and his associates, who are engaged in fish farming and trading.
According to reports, the CBI has assumed control of the investigation in three cases pertaining to the events on January 5.
They further mentioned that Sheikh was detained by the state police on February 29, and subsequently, the CBI assumed custody of him on March 6.
